News Alert! 316(b) ruling postponed
7/26/2012 2:35:26 PM
EPA has pushed back the final ruling for the standards for water intake structures under section 316(b) of the Clean Water Act. Due to the results of roughly 80 surveys the EPA has analyzed, the agency is now expecting to have defined final standards by June 27, 2012. This new data may affect how EPA defines the limiting of mortality and the methods in which an intake system will be deemed compliant.
This means that for many plants they will have to make a choice on what to do with they're existing intake systems that need updating. While most have been awaiting a decision they will now face a choice of replacing the existing Traveling Water Screens in spite of the lack of a decision, or making the updates they need through service, parts replacement or rebuilding the screens to ensure they remain in working order.
